2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500- Power that you just can’t Ignore

There were two instances of this, and it’s the only time we can remember it. Our test truck, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country pickup, was driving us thanks to its Super Cruise system, and we couldn’t help but sing along to Bob Seger’s “Like a Rock” on SiriusXM satellite radio. In the 1990s, Chevy used this song to promote their pickup trucks in an epic ad campaign. Our Silverado High Country seemed to magically and nostalgically connect the past and present Silverados as we drove throughout town. Since its “Like a Rock” days, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 has evolved tremendously, yet it remains a Chevy truck in every sense of the word.

The sticker was the cause of the result

The window sticker for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country 4×4 features the following information: Along with the Silverado ZR2, the High Country is the top grade in the Silverado series. We’ll let you be the judge of whether a premium street Chevy with 22-inch painted aluminium wheels and chrome accents is a good choice or not. The wheel’s complexity may be best seen in a larger 24-inch (or more) diameter, according to some.

The Dark Ash Metallic (a new colour for 2022) Silverado High Country was given to us with a plethora of add-ons, including Super Cruise, Technology, and High-Country Premium packages (power sunroof, all-weather floor liners, and 22-inch wheels) are included in the High-Country Premium package. Power-retractable assist steps, adaptive ride control suspension, wheel locks, and Multiflex tailgate are included in the High-Country Premium package.

0-60: Behind Twin-Turbo V-6s, ahead of V-8s

Chevrolet’s 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 powers the 2022 Silverado 1500 High Country. A 10-speed automatic transmission backs up its 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The segment’s largest, most powerful naturally aspirated V-8. Bigger isn’t always better. Many of GM’s competitors offer smaller-displacement twin-turbo V-6 models.

Compare the 5,578-pound Silverado High Country to the 2022 Toyota Tundra Platinum. The latter swapped its V-8 for a 3.4-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder making 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft. (A hybrid version is stronger.) According to our prior test statistics, the Tundra, which is 532 pounds heavier (woof) and has 31 fewer horsepower but 19 more lb-ft than the Chevy, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. The lighter, higher-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8 Silverado didn’t sprint away from the turbo-V-6-powered Tundra.

EcoBoost V-6? The 2021 Ford F-150 4×4 Lariat FX4 twin-turbo EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 (400 hp, 500 lb-ft) hits 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. 2021 Ford Raptor (with 450-hp, 510-lb-ft EcoBoost, and 391 pounds more) needed 5.6 seconds, followed by High Country by 0.4 seconds. The Silverado’s 6.2-liter V-8 is better for heavy towing than track sprints versus turbocharged V-6 pickups. The 6.2-liter Silverado RST, which is 158 pounds lighter than the High Country, has a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds, which puts it between the two EcoBoost Fords.

How does the 6.2-liter 2022 Silverado High Country compare to other V-8 trucks? 2021 Ford F-150 4×4 King Ranch with 400-hp, 410-lb-ft 5.0-liter V-8 hits 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. The 395-hp, 410-lb-ft 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi-powered 2019 Ram 1500 Limited 4X4 eTorque did it in 6.5 seconds. The 6.2-liter Silverado is no slouch among normally aspirated V-8s.

GM’s 6.2-liter V-8 surpasses the 355-hp, 383-lb-ft 5.3-liter V-8, and 3.0-liter diesel on paper and in certain scenarios. For daily driving, 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter are similar. The 6.2 is 4WD-only.

Luxury truck aggression

Few will drive their 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country like a sports car. If the truck’s brakes overheat, a dashboard message alerts you. At that point, a 45-mph speed limit takes effect while the brakes cool.

Chris Walton was astonished by how sporty the High Country was on the MT figure-eight course, which assesses handling. “The strong brake pedal is effective if you don’t use ABS,” he remarked. “Bleed the brakes into the skidpad like a sport sedan. The truck is balanced on the skidpad and understeers somewhat. Mismatched throttle mapping. The sensitive throttle makes skidpad speed control challenging. It’s sporty for a luxury pickup.

A Cockpit That Deserves to Be Mentioned

The 2018 Silverado 1500 High Country interior is also spacious. No longer offensive! It looks and feels like a 2022 pickup, and it’s competitive. It’s modern, natural, and horizontal. Modern touches include a 13.4-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and 15.0-inch head-up display.

Notice the middle console shifter? Not a Chevy. Once we figured it out, we never looked back. The wireless charging pad cubby is out of the way and not a garbage pad. You know where fast food garbage, banana peels, and change go. Chevy left detachable rubber pads around the gearshift for miscellaneous items.

Jet Black and Nightshift Blue were inside our tester. Chevrolet offers an unlimited number of hues (chrome, piano black, blue, grey, tan, brown, silver) in smooth plastic, textured plastic, open-pore wood, and leather. Overall, the soft touch points, comfortable seats, and convenient charge outlets are appealing and outstanding.

This 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country is “like a rock,” yet indistinguishable from before. Chevy triumphs.
