2022 Volvo C40-Unleash the Dream Driver Inside You

2022 Volvo C40 Review

The 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge electric SUV broke the record for the fastest Volvo ever by reaching 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. And the acceleration of this fastback crossover EV never gets old. As the motors hum blissfully along, it responds promptly to pressure on the go pedal by angling its grille-less front end slightly upward.

There are other electric SUVs with performance that rival sports cars besides the C40 Recharge. In every one of our testing parameters—and in parameters that are highly important for daily life—the Tesla Model Y performs better than it. Why, therefore, should the C40 Recharge be taken into account in the growing market for electric luxury SUVs? Because it’s cool, that’s all.

Second Electric SUV from Volvo

Let’s start with the Volvo XC40, which was introduced to American consumers in 2019 and swiftly rose to the top of our rankings for subcompact SUVs. The first of several all-electric vehicles from the Swedish manufacturer Volvo is the XC40 Recharge, a battery-powered variant of the XC40, which was unveiled for 2021. Then, in accordance with current fashion, Volvo modified its standard SUV to have a stylish fastback roofline. The C40 Recharge is the outcome.

The C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge are essentially the same devices. Both vehicles include a battery pack with a 75-kWh useable capacity under the floor and are based on Volvo’s CMA design. A dual-motor AWD powertrain in each vehicle cranks out a strong 402 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. Although both recharge at a maximum of 150 kW, the C40 manages to get 226 miles instead of 223 in EPA certification, giving it a minor range advantage. With a beginning price of $52,795 and the high-end Ultimate trim (the only trim available for the C40 in 2022), the XC40 Recharge is only $600 more expensive than the C40. Both are presently qualified for federal tax incentives of $7,500.

Styling 2022 Volvo C40

Since the C40’s design is one of its main selling points, starting with the XC40 could only be good for its fashionable adaption. The greenhouse contrasts with the bulky lower body panels, which are all pressed against the 20-inch wheels that emphasize aerodynamics. Whenever it is locked or unlocked, its distinctive headlights and taillights make an LED animation. That rear glass’s aerodynamic features at the top and bottom give it a sporty appearance.

Inside the C40, which makes a few significant improvements to the XC40’s appealing and practical interior, aesthetic attractiveness is still present. The C40’s materials are fully animal-free, yet they look and feel impressively premium. That’s not leather on the steering wheel or suede on the seats. The cosmopolitan blue carpeting on our test car complemented the color of the outside paint flawlessly.

Looks Are Only So Good

Even if you have access to a home charging station, the Tesla Model Y Range’s 226-mile range rating is superior, while the C40’s 226-mile range rating is inferior. Given that competitors like the Genesis GV60 can absorb electrons at 235 kW, its 150-kW charge rate is rather sluggish. Although you shouldn’t let these things stop you altogether, think very carefully about how you’ll utilise this EV. It’s feasible that someday, even more miles will be programmed in since Volvo was able to increase the XC40 Recharge’s range from 208 miles to 223 miles last year using simply a software update.

We’re hoping that further over-the-air upgrades will fix the software issues we discovered on our C40 test vehicle. The rearview camera would occasionally not turn on, the tyre pressure warning wouldn’t reset, and only the back doors would unlock. Another issue is its Google-designed infotainment system, which has helpful features and speech recognition capabilities but isn’t as responsive as those of other manufacturers or your smartphone.

It’s Too Awesome to Care

Finite discrepancies in the C40’s specifications or in our test results won’t persuade someone to buy one. This EV should be chosen over others, even those that go further, carry more, or perform better, due to the experience it offers. C40 is not a mundane zero-emissions mobility appliance, unlike some of its rivals. The C40 never gets old, thanks to its stylish exterior, C40’s unique interior, and vivacious driving qualities. That would be inappropriate for this small electric SUV.
