2023 BMW iX M60 – First Drive Review
The second BMW electric car SUV with a new dedicated EV platform. Is it possible for a BMW electric vehicle to be a “genuine BMW 2023 M car?” The first effort made by the business was the all-wheel-drive i4 M50 Gran Coupe four-door hatch, which has a total output of 536 horsepower. The CLAR design of the i4 M50 is shared with the 4 Series Gran Coupe, whilst the BMW iX receives its unique carbon-fibre-intensive mixed-material monocoque-on-battery-skateboard construction. Surprisingly, both cars are made on the same production line and have the same fundamental powertrain: a pair of brushed electromagnet-type AC synchronous motors, which represent an industry first. The front and rear motors of the basic iX xDrive50 and the i4 M50 are substantially identical, while the 2023 BMW iX M60 keeps roughly the same front motor. However, unlike the i4, which got its 60 percent M-power increase by simply adding a front motor, the BMW iX starts with two motors, so the M team had to come up with new ways to improve the output of the new2023 BMW iX M60. BMW 2023 edition moves more electrons via a motor to generate greater electric power. The M team increased the amperage running through the stator by attaching a second inverter that could handle another set of three electrical phases. The max output of this powertrain climbs from 335 horsepower/295 pound-feet in the BMW iX xDrive50 to 483 horsepower and 524 pound-feet in the 2023 BMW iX M60.
How quicker does BMW iX M60 run?
Start the 2023 BMW iX M60 in Personal mode, and have BMW iX M60 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque at your disposal. When you switch to BMW ix sport mode, the horsepower jumps to 610. Launch mode then increases torque by 62 lb-ft to 811 overall, allowing this big box to reach 60 mph in a claimed 3.6 seconds. This knocks 0.8 seconds off BMW’s claimed time for the iX xDrive50. The speed limits on the iX M60 are also increased from 124 to 155 mph. Note that this is with a single-ratio transmission, which puts the BMW iX M60 motor squarely at their “redline” of 15,400 rpm at peak speed.
