2023 Mazda CX-50-Establishing the Higher Standard

2023 Mazda CX-50 Review

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 SUV, a brand-new marque for Mazda, is well-equipped to compete with competing compact crossovers like the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue, and Toyota RAV4. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower available normally aspirated or a 256-horsepower turbocharged variant are both offered for the CX-50. All variants include all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, a hybrid vehicle with a Toyota powertrain is in the works. The CX-50’s dynamic handling is comparable to that of the tiny CX-30 crossover and the Mazda 3 compact car because they both share the same platform. The CX-50 wears a rougher style, which is a contrast from the more elegant, upmarket looks featured elsewhere in the Mazda portfolio, while being only marginally bigger than the company’s CX-5 SUV.

Let’s have a look at what’s new in 2023

Mazda claims that it will sell the brand-new CX-50 alongside the somewhat smaller CX-5, which is based on an older platform. The CX-5 will be marketed with the all-new CX-50 when it goes on sale. It is uncertain how long the two will continue to work together as dealers.

2023 Mazda CX-50 Performance

The base engine does not have a turbocharger and only produces 187 horsepower, but all versions will come standard with a 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine. The one to purchase is the more powerful turbocharged variation that offers 256 horsepower. Mazda has baked in crisp handling to the CX-50, and it comes standard with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. This ensures that the vehicle continues Mazda’s reputation of producing vehicles that are enjoyable to drive. In point of fact, while we were doing our first test drive, we lauded the CX-50 for its ability to deliver a pleasant ride in addition to a driving experience that was both enjoyable and accurate. In the not-too-distant future, a hybrid version will be added to the range, and Toyota will provide the powertrain for it. We anticipate that it will be the same as the one found in the RAV4 Hybrid, which is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that is paired with two electric motors that are capable of producing a total of 219 horsepower when combined. To this point, we have only had the opportunity to test the turbocharged model, but it managed to reach 60 miles per hour in just 6.6 seconds on our track.

CX-50’s Fuel Economy

The CX-50 model with the standard four-cylinder engine is the one that delivers the greatest fuel economy. The EPA estimates that this model will achieve 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway; however, selecting the optional turbo will only reduce those numbers by 1 mpg in each case while adding a significant amount of performance. The turbocharged CX-50 was able to get 28 miles per gallon on our highway fuel economy test route, which was conducted at 75 miles per hour.

Mazda CX-50 Interior

The CX-50 is a crossover vehicle that, just like the CX-5 and CX-30, can accommodate a total of five people across two rows of seating. Inside, the larger square vents on the dashboard give the 50 a little more truckish aspect than the smaller CX-30, but the overall mood is stylishly sophisticated, especially on the equipped Premium Plus grade. Although the back seat space is considerable, it is important to note that the CX-5 provides greater headroom. The front seats are pleasant and supportive, and the rear seat space is also generous. Every model comes standard with a steering wheel that tilts and telescopes, a start button, and a display that is partially digital for the gauges.

CX-50’s Infotainment

Both versions of the infotainment display run the most recent version of the Mazda Connect interface and are controlled by a click wheel mounted on the center console of the CX-50. The base model of the vehicle comes with a smaller 8.8-inch display, while all other trims get a larger 10.3-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both of which provide wireless connectivity, are standard equipment on every model. A stereo with eight speakers is standard, while the Premium and Premium Plus versions come with a Bose stereo with twelve speakers and a SiriusXM satellite radio as standard equipment. There is a wireless phone charger available, but it is only included in the most expensive model, the Turbo Premium Plus.

Frequently asked question

What are the most common problems with a Mazda CX-5?

Regarding the 2016 Mazda CX-5, the most often reported faults included the lighting, brakes, electrical systems, engines, and drivetrain. The greatest issues cited were a shattered windshield at 19,000 miles, a failure of the daytime LED lights at 43,000 miles, and early brake wear at 27,000 miles.

Does the CX-50 have cylinder deactivation?

Japan is where the turbo engine and transmission are made. It is possible to disable the cylinder deactivation. On the left side of the steering wheel’s bottom portion, Mazda included a toggle button.

Do Mazda CX-5 have transmission problems?

It’s a straightforward automotive issue to identify. Shift delays, grinding or leaping during acceleration, a shaky sensation, whistling noises, or a burning odor emanating from under the internet of things.

Is Mazda cylinder deactivation reliable?

The cylinder deactivation technique is a really simple technology for the sake of technology. Yes, it functions, but the SkyActiv engine has been rectified, and the Mazda CX-5, Mazda 3, and Mazda 6 are already pretty dependable automobiles (the dodgy batch has been, anyway).

Will the Mazda CX-50 have a touch screen?

The fact that the Mazda CX-50’s infotainment system has a touchscreen excites us much.
