2022 GMC Terrain AT4 AWD – A Better Choice for You

In preparation for the new model year, GMC made some changes to its Terrain compact SUV. Nevertheless, the class of compact SUVs is one of the most competitive in the business. The2022 GMC Terrain AT4trim level, which is positioned as a premium off-road-worthy trim level by the brand and is available for other GMC vehicles, will be available for the Terrain in 2022.

Overview

The 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 and the Chevrolet Equinox share both their platform and other mechanical components. The GMC Terrain Suv is available in four rising trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The exterior styling of all Terrain variants will be changed for 2022, along with the availability of more straightforward drivetrain configurations and an improved set of technological features. The AT4 model was evaluated, and it was equipped with all-wheel drive as standard, a distinct off-road appearance package, and a front skid plate made of steel. There is no longer a standard SL model available for purchase.

Powertrain

The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that came standard in last year’s GMC Terrain has been replaced by a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that comes standard in the 2022 model. It is not equipped with Equinox’s 6-speed automatic transmission but rather a 9-speed automatic transmission that is linked to it. 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque are generated by the powertrain.

Its many rivals, such as the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, and Mazda CX-5, all have more horsepower than it has. Even the Jeep Compass has a few more tricks up its sleeve. The optional 252-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that was introduced in the Terrain the previous year is no longer available.

On the SLE and SLT, the front-wheel drive is the standard configuration, although all-wheel drive is an option with the AT4 and Denali trim levels. The car Terrain AT4 has three different driving modes—all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and off-road—that can be selected by the driver. The maximum weight that may be towed is 1,500 pounds. There is 7.9-inch ground clearance.

Safety and Technology

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the 2022 GMC Terrain with five stars for overall crash safety. The vehicle received five stars for front and side collision protection. However, it only received four stars for its rollover risk. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards it the “Good” rating across the board, except for the side impact safety category, in which it receives the “Marginal” rating.

The Pro Safety package from GMC comes standard with driver assistance safety technologies like Automated Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, and automatic High Beams. The Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Safety Alert Seat are all included in the GMC Pro Safety Plus package, which may be purchased as an option. Regarding technology, basic features include the ability to wirelessly connect to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.

Except for the base SLE trim, all other trim levels come equipped with an infotainment touchscreen measuring 8 inches in size. Except for the Denali, all other trim levels include navigation as an optional extra. There is a Wi-Fi hotspot that supports 4G LTE. On the SLT and AT4, an HD Surround Vision camera, a Head-Up Display, and Park Assist are all available as part of an extra Tech Package. When the Denali is ordered, additional features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Park Assist are incorporated.

Driving Impressions

The moment that it is time to drive brings about the major letdown that was anticipated. It is astonishing that, for a company that produces a car that is as excellent as the Chevrolet Corvette, the GMC Terrain possesses so little of the quality that is found in the Corvette.

Even with only one driver on board, this engine gives the impression of being underpowered; completely filling it up will almost certainly force you to spend the rest of your life in the slow lane. The turbo lag that is caused by the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is made worse by a transmission that hesitates to downshift.

The throttle has an excessively large amount of travel during which nothing happens. After that, all of a sudden, the engine and the transmission understand what’s going on and hurry to respond. When only a small amount of throttle is used, the hesitation is less obvious, but it is still present. Do you desire a quicker pace? Prepare yourself.

Although the Terrain’s ride quality is primarily liked, the mushy steering does little to enhance the overall experience of driving the vehicle. However, the Terrain tires screeched easily when cornering, and they lost traction during the brief summer showers that occurred occasionally. In a combination of city and highway driving, the vehicle achieved an overall fuel economy of 24.3 mpg.

Wrap Up

When you go on a date with the 2022 GMC Terrain AT4, it’s like meeting someone who, at first glance, appears to be stunning but turns out to be as stupid as a post. We really wanted to like this automobile. It has a very distinctly handsome appearance, and the amount of room inside is very ample. Its technological package is simple to utilize. If the driveline weren’t so unimpressive, it would be easier to overlook the terrible quality of the inside of the vehicle. There is not much about this that has a premium feel to it, which is GMC’s mantra.

GMC motor must be capable of doing significantly better than this.
