Small SUV – Is Volkswagen Joining the Dots in its SUV Lineup
Volkswagen has done well in the SUV space in the United States and has seen healthy growth in this segment. It is all set to launch the Atlas Cross Sport in the market and the company is confident of doing well with this new launch. But the German auto maker seems to have set its priorities in the SUV segment where it is planning to launch two new SUVs which would be smaller than its bestselling Tiguan. Scott Keogh, CEO for the group in America had recently confirmed VW’s plans of adding new vehicles to the SUV family.
The plan isn’t surprising as two new models one of which would be an entry-end SUV and the other priced just over it would help the company join the dots in this fast growing segment. At present VW doesn’t have a subcompact SUV in its kitty in the US market with Tiguan being the entry vehicle in its line-up. Several other automakers have done well in the A-Segment of the SUV market in the recent years and Volkswagen would be looking to enter this space aggressively with not one but two cars offering ample choice to the customers.
Both Atlas and the Atlas Cross fall in the midsized SUV category and this offers VW the perfect opportunity to target a new segment of customers with smaller budgets. The carmaker has tasted success with smaller SUVs T-Cross and the T-Roc in other parts of the world. Now having built a firm footing in the mid and large sized SUV market in North America it makes sense for them to introduce a new product that may act as a stepping stone for the other products that carmaker has in its offering.
Volkswagen fans on a budget would surely be waiting to try out their A-segment SUVs.
