The Redesigned and Brand New-2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale
For the past several years, SUVs have become the new normal in the automobile business. All manufacturers want to be able to sit higher off the ground while still going quicker. Alfa has opted to enter this market and create the all-new Tonale for 2023, drawing on its racing background. Since 1910, Alfa has been recognized for producing some of the greatest Italian automobiles, and the Tonale is no exception. This car was initially shown as a concept vehicle in 2019 and has been in the final stages of development for a few years. Nonetheless, Alfa has managed to incorporate many of the lines and wrinkles into Tonale’s production form.
Elegant Styling
It has to be said that if there is one thing that Italian automobiles are famed for, it is their style. These automobiles are works of art that would be at home on the streets, on a racetrack, or even inside a museum. The Tonale easily carries on the Alfa history with a design unlike any other vehicle on the market. There is LED lighting throughout, and the wheels are stunning. The design of the headlights and taillamps are identical, and the taillamps stretch the length of the car at the back.
The front grill, which is in the distinctive Alfa Romeo inverted triangle form, is one of the most prominent design aspects of the Tonale car. The wheels, which look to be 19 inches in diameter, have a distinctive shape as well. Other stylistic components include black paneling that runs the length of both sides of the car, as well as a modest front splitter and rear diffuser.

2023 Alfa Romeo TonaleInterior
The Tonale’s interior is designed with the driver in mind. The circular air vents and driver-centric dashboard arrangement are obviously derived from the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV on the inside. The controls and displays are positioned in front of the driver’s seat for convenient access while driving. Unique designs cover the inside finishes, and there are lots of cool logos strewn throughout the cabin to keep things interesting. The materials and configuration specifications for the various trim levels have yet to be revealed by Alfa Romeo. Nonetheless, press photographs reveal a sophisticated interior with Alcantara or suede upholstery and corresponding embellishments on the console and doors. Like its larger cousin, the Stelvio SUV, the Tonale has a start/stop button on the steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster.
2023 TonaleSpecs
There are two powerplant options for the Tonale. The star of the show is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine with a Tonale electric motor on the rear axle to offer all-wheel drive. The system’s combined output is 272 Alfa Romeo Tonale horsepower, and it can go up to 30 miles on electricity alone.
There’s also a classic gas Tonale engine to choose from. It has a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 256 horsepower and a 9-speed automated gearbox. All-wheel drive is standard, and Alfa claims the gas engine satisfies the requirements for a super-ultra-low emissions vehicle (SULEV 30).
Three performance settings are available on the Tonale PHEV:
Dynamic/Dual Power (PHEV): Maximum output from both the engine and the electric motor.
Natural: Typical performance for daily usage
Advanced Efficiency: For the entirety of the vehicle’s 30-mile Tonale range, it runs entirely on electricity.
TonaleSafety Measures
Although crash tests on the Tonale aren’t yet available, Alfa described the Tonale’s several standard safety features:
- Cruise control that adapts to the situation
- Pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking
- Rear cross-traffic alert with blind-spot warning
- Keeping an eye on the driver
- Warning of a possible collision in the forward direction
