2023 Lyriq EV Production Starts and Smaller Cadillac EV Teased
General Motors is all caught up this spring as the production of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has started. That said, they also have an all-new, smaller Cadillac EV in the lineup and are soon to launch. It’s encouraging to learn that the Lyriq is on pace for production. The assembly has begun in the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, which was recently refurbished for EV duty. According to Forbes, GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee plant can produce roughly 200,000 cars per year. To make the most of this production capability, the automaker has inline-four models set for production on a flexible build schedule. The Lyriq joins the production lines for the Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia, which may be changed around based on parts and demand to speed up specific model production if necessary. Any insight regarding the receiving paid reservations for the vehicle is yet to be revealed by GM. There is no information regarding how many it wants to manufacture as production ramps up this year. Everyone else’s order books and dealer reservations are all set to open on May 19, 2022. Like the current Hummer production line, Lyriq’s initial battery packs will be provided by LG from South Korea. Ultium batteries will be made in Lordstown, Ohio, and shipped to Detroit and Pop Hill production facilities later this year. Late in 2023, another Ultium plant will spring up alongside the Spring Hill location to directly provide batteries to those assembly lines. According to Forbes, the batteries will have a new home as well, based on information from a recent dealer meeting about a smaller, all-new EV SUV: “At a recent dealer meeting, Cadillac reportedly showed an image of a smaller XT4 sized EV crossover which could be built in Tennessee. The electric Acura crossover that is expected in 2024 may also be built at the plant.”Also Read: Ford Confirms 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV Pickup EPA Driving Range Leaks
The future Acura EV that is being teased is part of a bigger agreement between Acura’s parent company, Honda, and Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors. The agreement allows Honda to quickly introduce a few new electric vehicles using shared infrastructure based on GM’s North American manufacturing presence with substantial production capacity.Tags: 2019 Subaru Forester Touring, 2020 BMW iX3, 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, 2020 dodge charger, 2020 EQC, 2020 Ford Super Duty, 2020 Honda Pilot, 2020 Kia Optima, 2020 Mercedes Benz, 2020 Nissan Versa, 2020 Subaru WRX STI, Audi SUV, BMW, Brandon K.
