Audi Ubransphere: The Van-Like Concept with First-Class Treatment in Second Row

As of the history of Audi concepts, the first two depicted the sporty and luxury future of electric vehicles with autonomous capabilities. Unlike Skysphere and Grandsphere, the Urbansphere would be compact such that it fits the requirements of a car of megacities. It would be more like an EV providing a first-class experience. This concept holds similarities to the standard people mover. The Audi badge and various other exteriors features hold it discrete despite similarities like four doors, a lift gate, a CUV-like body, and a frunk. The buzz that it is creating is not about the similarities but the first-class treatment that Audi has incorporated into this concept.

The First-Class Treatment

This three-row vehicle is about to give you the feel of a private jet or in first-class on an international jetliner, with the red light emanating from the bottom leading you to the middle row seats instead of the front two seats. The access is made easier with middle seats swiveling towards you. The private screen to look at apart from the center console revealing itself with a feel of it as floating towards you and a transparent OLED screen that pivots down from the roof and between the two front seats; if you wish to share your screen. You will get the first-class jet seat feel with the seating capacity to lean back into a lounging position. There is an arching panel located behind the headrest that will come up between you and your fellow passenger to add privacy with the press of a button on the door.

Controls Accessibility with No Need for Physical Touch

It senses you! It will analyze your face and voice to sense if you are stressed. Upon sensing stress, it suggests you relax by using the private screen or sound zone present in the headrest. Audi has taken the pleasant touch seriously with real wood, wool, and synthetic fabrics.

Sustainable Interior

Sustainability is a fundamental characteristic of interior materials. The seat padding is made of recycled polyamide Econyl, which is derived from post-consumer waste such as fishing nets, carpets, and stiff fabrics. Bamboo viscose is used for the armrests and the back fabric, and it’s manufactured from bamboo cellulose that’s turned into a pulp before being spun into yarn. Audi states that these materials are created without the use of chemicals throughout the manufacturing process; however, they don’t specify which chemicals aren’t utilized.

Level Four Autonomy

The Urbansphere, like the other Sphere Concepts of Audi, is designed with Level Four Autonomy in mind. When in fully autonomous mode, the whole instrument cluster and steering wheel disappear behind the dashboard. In manual driving mode, the entire windshield becomes a screen for displaying app and content information; however, in automatic driving mode, only the passenger side becomes a screen.

Screens Whose Presence You Won’t Realize

In the Urbansphere, the translucent OLED display isn’t the only concealed screen. When everything is turned off, you won’t notice any dark squares on the dashboard. Instead, all of the information and content is projected onto the wooden surfaces. This gives the Urbansphere a distinct air of unobtrusiveness. Audi Urbansphere also includes virtual reality glasses in the door armrests that function with the infotainment system if the driver decides to utilize them.

Providing Juice to The Urbansphere

The key feature of the huge battery is its capability to charge quickly. The 120 kWh pack has an 800-volt charging mechanism that allows it to charge at a rate of 270 kW at DC fast-charging stations. The Audi Ubransphere will be able to charge up to 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes in the availability of the infrastructure. The charge can go from 5% to a whopping 80% in less than 25 minutes. That’s 466 miles of added range.

The Light Canvas

Audi wished to keep the distinctive “Singleframe” grille shape. Audi Ubransphere chose to create the “Audi Light Canvas” using its superior LED lighting technology rather than sculpting it out of plastic and metal. The entire front end is a massive LED matrix light arrangement that not only replicates the Singleframe.

It’s Big, But Not Big!

The Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform on which this EV sits is another major component of the Urbansphere. The Audi Ubransphere is 18 feet long, 5.8 feet tall, and 6.6 feet wide, with 24-inch wheels on an 11-foot wheelbase. All of these make it one of the company’s largest vehicles. Despite these numbers, the entire car is designed to appear smaller. The wide curving roof arch, huge rockers that assist cover the completely flat 120 kWh battery pack, and the softer shape of the wheel arches play a crucial role in making it look compact and small.
