Kia’s Plan To Launch Two New BEVs Every Year From 2023, Including a Pickup for U.S Market

Kia is here with its future strategy regarding the BEVs. It shows the company’s transition to more battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in the future to secure growth, just like the ideology of many other global automakers. The BEVs would pave the way for their aspiration to be a global electric mobility leader. To achieve this, Kia Motors is set to launch at least two BEVs each year starting in 2023. With this, they have updated their previous plan of 11 BEVs by 2026 to 14 BEVs by 2027. “Kia has been undergoing a full-scale transformation, including changes incorporate vision, logo, product and design, and strategy. To achieve the company’s vision of becoming a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider, we will focus on accelerating the transition to future business models. We will become even more customer-centric in our approach and pursue a dynamic transformation while maintaining sound business operations”, said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia Corporation.

2023 Kia EV9

Kia Motors has a discrete plan for each market and will work on market-specific platforms and models. To start with, Kia is all set to launch their flagship SUV, the EV9, by 2023. This one is comparatively larger than the 2022 Kia EV6 and has a competitive performance. As far as the U.S. market is concerned, Kia has outlined a plan for two electric pickup trucks owing to its huge share of pickup trucks in the market. The car is a full-size three-row SUV with a bold front design showcasing Kia’s trademark tiger grille nose as unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show in November last year. It offers a range of 335 miles on a single charge and boasts a 0-60 MPH time of under 5 seconds. With every six-minute charge, it adds 62 miles of range when plugged into a D.C. fast charger. Thanks to its advanced driver-assistance system, Kia’s first Auto Mode and autonomous driving technology equipped the car. It will feature Highway Driving Pilot. Apart from the mid-size SUVs and pickups, Kia has G.T. cars plans. It has planned to bring in the EV6 GT high-performance model. It would surely bring artificial E.V. noises to your ears. Further, Kia Motors also has a clear plan to bring the Kia Soul and the Kia Niro’s E.V. version. Whereas the other global automakers, including Kia’s sister company, are developing hydrogen technology, there is no sign of it in Kia in recent times.

Manufacturing in the U.S.A

Kia currently has its manufacturing facility in Georgia. With plans to be a global leaver of E.V.s, the company will likely expand its production. Midsized SUVs and pickups will manufacture here for the U.S. market. Kia hasn’t provided any hints on the new dedicated E.V. facility. It indicates that Kia Motors will retool the current manufacturing facility in Georgia to make room for the upcoming E.V. manufacturing. According to the plan, Kia will build its entry-level E.V.s in India, smaller and mid-size E.V.s in Europe and mid-size market-specific vehicles in China.

What About the Pickup Trucks?

The details of this entry-level model have not been released yet. For now, this remains a mystery. We only know the two cryptic descriptions regarding these pickup trucks that say “dedicated” E.V. pickup truck and a “strategic model for emerging markets.” As per this description, we can take a safe bet that this pickup truck would be nowhere around the internal-combustion Hyundai Santa Cruz. The Kia motors have been working on its E.V. revolution and experimenting for a long time now. The jump to pickup truck seems to be the part of this revolution attempt. This “dedicated” truck remains a mystery with no word regarding anything.
