The Stunning 6×6 Treatment for the Sixth-Gen Ford Bronco
It’s possible that Apocalypse Manufacturing drew inspiration for its Dark Horse Ford Bronco 6×6 from our rendering, but this is unlikely. The company specialized in 6×6 constructions and was determined to complete the six-wheel-drive conversion when it could get a Bronco into its Florida facility. The Doomsday, HellFire, Sinister 6, and Warlord are among Apocalypse’s tandem-axled 6x6s on the road today. The Dark Horse is a Ford Bronco and always will be, with the difference that it has been lengthened by three feet, an extra set of wheels has been added, and there is now a truck bed in the back. The Dark Horse Bronco went from a 189-inch four-wheeled SUV to a 225-inch six-wheeled super truck. The extra rear axle entailed lengthening the entire SUV, which was accomplished by installing a unique five-foot bed. To make place for the second pair of rear wheels to sandwich between the originals, the Bronco was divided in half behind the rear doors, and that entire section—including the original axle, rear end, and suspension—was relocated back a bunch. The factory roll bar extends into the new bed in its original location. Sounds simple enough, but don’t get overconfident and cut your frame in half at home; that’s something we’d leave to the professionals. The 6×6 Bronco’s rear drivetrain is clearly the star of Apocalypse Manufacturing’s Dark Horse project. The Apocalypse patented bespoke tandem middle-axle powers all four wheels; the four rear wheels are always powered, and the front axle can be powered in addition to producing six-wheel-drive if you want more power. When paired with a steering stabilizer and 37-inch Patagonia tires wrapped around unique, in-house 20-inch SFJ alloy wheels, the 4-inch lift Coilover suspension delivers a comfortable ride, but you have other options if you’re fronting the cost of a truck. Steel sidesteps assist inhabitants in entering and exiting the building. A Kevlar-coated front steel bumper with lights and recovery hooks complements the Dark Horse’s doomsday theme. Thanks to software tuning, larger injectors, and a bespoke exhaust system, the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 generates 400 hp, a whopping 70+ hp over the standard output. Future Dark Horse could feature a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 with over 700 horsepower, taking the Dark Horse to the next level. Also Read: 2022 Lexus LC500 Inspiration Series Convertible: The stunning beauty
For open-air cruising and a closer look at that scrumptious interior, a unique slant-back fiberglass hardtop roof—along with the doors—can be removed. The marine-grade dark brown leather upholstery, designed in the King Ranch style, is beautiful but not overdone, with black accents that nicely compliment the rest of the interior. Nobody would keep this type of interior exposed to the elements, but in the event of an accident, the inside is weather resistant and can tolerate heat, rain, and snow. The Dark Horse 6×6 by Apocalypse Manufacturing is described as the “world’s first” Ford Bronco 6×6. With a lot of uncertainty, the first of many that Apocalypse plans to build will be auctioned for no reserve at Barrett-Jackson during the Palm Beach, Florida, show in April 2022.Tags: 2019 Subaru Forester Touring, 2020 BMW iX3, 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, 2020 dodge charger, 2020 EQC, 2020 Ford Super Duty, 2020 Honda Pilot, 2020 Kia Optima, 2020 Mercedes Benz, 2020 Nissan Versa, 2020 Subaru WRX STI, Audi SUV, BMW, Brandon K.
