The World’s Most Powerful and Fastest Sports Cars
The fastest automobiles are the most exclusive and pricey. As the automotive world enters the electric age, performance carmakers still chase top speed. Hyper cars are faster than ‘regular’ sports cars and supercars. In 100 years, automobiles went from barely faster than horses to over 100mph. Aston Martin’s DB4 GT and Ferrari F40 both topped 150mph in the 1950s. McLaren dazzled. 1998 McLaren F1 topped 240mph. Bugatti’s Veyron debuted in 2005 at 253mph. Bugatti’s 267mph Veyron Super Sport debuted in 2010.
Many (unknown) autos claim to be faster since then. Bugatti’s Chiron was targeted at 300mph after the Veyron. In 2019, Bugatti’s Chiron Super Sport 300+ broke 300mph, while the production version was 271mph. Bugatti’s production car will reach that speed, but only on its test track. Due to public safety considerations and the safe speed limits of tires and other components, it’s questionable if a 300mph production car would ever be sold. Here are today’s fastest cars.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
The year of its debut is 2022
The ‘fastest ever’ car on the market comes with a huge disclaimer: its top speed is only theoretical for the time being and is based on computer simulations and modelling. Although Koenigsegg is so sure of the performance of its new Jesko Absolut, the famed Swedish hypercar company swears not to ever produce a quicker series production road car than this one.
An E85-compatible twin-turbo V8 powers the Jesko Absolut, delivering “at least” 1,600 horsepower. The head of the firm defines it as a “land-based rocket ship determined to attain unheard of speed in record-setting tempo.”
What’s the precise speed? Much though Koenigsegg set a speed goal of 310 mph for the Jesko Absolut, computer simulations show that it will reach even higher speeds because of the vehicle’s extremely low drag and slippery shape. It will be difficult, though, to locate a tire capable of reaching those speeds, as well as a long enough stretch of straight road. In any case, we’re talking about Koenigsegg here, not some start-up hypercar business with no track record.
The Venom F5 from Hennessey
Released in 2022
For the past three decades, Hennessey has worked on everything from Ferraris to pickup trucks to Dodge Vipers, and he’s still going strong. The Lotus-derived 2011 Venom GT (with a top speed of 270 mph) was the company’s first foray into full-scale car production, but it’s since done it twice with the Venom F5.
Venom F5 is a carbon-bodied hypercar with an in-house platform and an engine capable of producing more than 1,800 horsepower, not a Lotus Elise upgraded to the point of being unrecognizable. Although it’s about the same weight as a Ford Focus, you can expect it to perform like a maniac.
His position on this list is only theoretical at this time, as he has not attempted a full top-speed run like the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. However, it has a good chance of achieving 311 mph or more. Given that it can go from 0 to 186mph in just 8.4 seconds, we trust them. There will only be 24 produced, at a pre-tax cost of £1.58 million.
Chiron Super Sport 300+ Bugatti
Developed in 2021
Any list of the fastest cars on the internet is incomplete without a Bugatti. A mind-boggling work of engineering like the standard Chiron does not mean that it can’t be improved upon.
In honour of the first hypercar to reach 300mph, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ was created as a special edition of the already impressive Chiron Super Sport. According to reports, Bugatti will allow customers to add a roll cage to the production car’s Ehra-Lessien test track in order to go faster than the car’s electronically limited top speed of 273 mph.
Along with a quad-turbo 8-litre W16 engine that produces 1600 horsepower, the Super Sport 300+ features an aerodynamically-optimized body and considerable weight reduction measures. ‘Super Sport 300+’ 30 of them will be built at a cost of £3.1 million apiece.
SSC Tuatara
Year of Launch: 2021
The SSC Ultimate Aero held the Guinness World Record for the fastest production automobile for three years. The SSC Tuatara is a 1750PS hypercar featuring a 5.9-litre twin-turbo V8. SSC claimed a production car record of 316mph in 2020, however, measurement errors made it unreliable.
SSC tried again in 2021, utilizing specialist measuring gear and engineer oversight. The Tuatara touched 286mph and averaged 283mph on both runs, breaking Koenigsegg’s 2017 record. SSC will try again to break 300mph. The Washington-built Tuatara costs £1m before taxes, and 100 are anticipated.
The RimacNevera
Launched in 2021
The RimacNevera disproves the assumption that electric cars are only quick at low speeds. The Croatian business, which has a controlling stake in Bugatti with Porsche, claims its EV hypercar can reach 258mph. The Nevera can accelerate from 0-62mph in under two seconds and cover the quarter-mile in 8.6 seconds. Rimac uses two single-speed gearboxes to prevent Nevera’s acceleration from tailing off.
The Nevera’s technical innovations include torque vectoring and a 120kWh battery with a 340-mile range. It boasts 300kW of regenerative braking, the most of any EV. 150 Neveras cost £1.72m each.
