Mercedes showcased a concept of an electric G-Class at the Munich Auto Show last September. Back then, as per the word around, the concept was near-production study if what the future electric G-Wagen could be if ever made. The concept utilized gas-powered Gelande Wagen’s bodywork. As per Chairman Kallenius’s confirmation, the final production modal, which will hit the road in 2024, rides on a modified version of the current G-Class platform. It hints that Mercedes-Benz EQG would neither share the current EVA2 architecture utilized for the EQS and EQE SUV families nor would it wait for the dedicated EV architectures that are still in development. There is a clear distinction by the Mercedes for the usage of the platforms. It goes like MB.EA platform will be utilized by future midsize and larger electric vehicles; vans will use VAN.EA, whereas the will utilize AMG.EA. The performance EVs are in line for the latter half of 2025. The fourth core platform – MMA, is likely to come in mid-decade. However, the G-Class EV would stay unique as per as the platform is concerned. Also Read: GM Confirm Cadillac Lyric EV Production Starts March 21, new Orders Open May 19
Potential particulars of G-Class EV
The signature boxy G-Class shape makes EQG instantly recognizable. The traditional grille is replaced with a black panel illuminated with three-pointed stars in the Mercedes-Benz EQG, which would be the signature of the EQ lineup as a part of the “EQ mask.” Other than this, it won’t be sharing much under the skin with the rest of the EQ lineup models. The new electric vehicle brand’s new face debuted in 2022 with its first vehicle Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan. The EQG, in its concept, is equipped with four electric motors, each sending power to one wheel. It has a two-speed gearbox. A 107.8 kWh battery pack will power Mercedes-Benz EQG if it follows the lead of the EQS family. Further, the engineers will work to enhance crucial aspects like the aerodynamics, the shape, and weight with an aim to make it a decent range figure on the new G.; though it might be a big challenge.Tags: 2019 Subaru Forester Touring, 2020 BMW iX3, 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, 2020 dodge charger, 2020 EQC, 2020 Ford Super Duty, 2020 Honda Pilot, 2020 Kia Optima, 2020 Mercedes Benz, 2020 Nissan Versa, 2020 Subaru WRX STI, Audi SUV, BMW, Brandon K.
